The boys soccer team held its annual awards banquet last Wednesday, almost three weeks after its final match of the year. The coaches reflected on a season that started out with some adversity but managed to improve throughout culminating with the program winning its first sectional title. Among the 21 athletes that were recognized for their place on the team, the coaching staff had the pleasure of presenting six major awards to those that exhibited exceptional character and effort throughout the season as determined by their peers and the coaching staff. The recipients and their awards were as follows:
Bob Blaydes Sportsmanship Award: Sophomore Colton Britton (top row, right)
Coaches Award: Senior Aldo Guadarrama (bottom row, left)
Most Improved Player: Freshman Jared George (bottom row, center)
Golden Brick (Defensive Player of the Year): Junior Dean Hampton (bottom row, right)
Golden Boot (Offensive Player of the Year): Sophomore Daniel Jakes (top row, left)
Most Valuable Player: Senior Brayton Slifer (top row, center)
Jakes and Hampton were also selected to the Hoosier All-Conference team. Slifer was selected to the Lafayette Journal & Courier All-Area Team.
