Delphi rights ship against Lafayette Jeff

By Clay Maxfield

After suffering from a close overtime loss on Tuesday Delphi looked to get things back on track at home when visiting team, Lafayette Jeff took the floor. Little did Jeff know that the Lady Oracles were not looking to let another game slip through their fingers as they took it to the Broncho’s finishing with a 57-50 final for the win and their first victory of the season.

Like aforementioned the Lady Oracles went to work quickly when juniors Danielle Swayze and Tatum Minier scored easily in the paint when Lafayette Jeff finally got their bearings and went on a 7-0 run only to have that run stifled by a spurt of offense put together by Swayze, Minier and sophomore Rylee Lane stole an inbounds pass and converted inside for 2. Despite the offensive power Delphi put out the game was tied going into the 2nd quarter, 14 all.

The second half looked as if the Oracles may run away with it as Lane connected with Myka Roth for a score followed shortly by a 3 from Bailey Gasser and two back to back buckets inside from both Roth and Minier, pushing them into a 34-29 lead at the break.

Jeff looked to make a comeback scoring in the first minute off of two easy jumpers before Bailey Gasser worked at the line going 1 for 2 and then quickly adding to Delphi’s lead by hitting a jump shot from just outside 15 feet. The Broncho’s continued to claw their way back into the game from time to time but a combined offensive effort from Minier and Roth helped pull away for a final of 57-50.

When asked at the conclusion of the game on what Coach Dan Dawson’s thoughts were coming from Tuesday’s loss to Thursday nights big win he believed their “teamwork improved dramatically from the opener at West Central while balanced scoring and sharing the ball were the keys to our win over a 4a opponent.”

Delphi was led by 4 players in double digit scoring from Minier, Roth, Swayze and Gasser while Minier, Roth and Gasser also tallied 6 rebounds each for the game.

Roth’s double-double helps lead Oracles to romp over Pioneer

By Clay Maxfield

The Lady Oracles came into Saturday’s game with a record of 1-1, looking to bolster that record as winless Pioneer looked to leave town with a victory. Delphi had other ideas in mind though as they put a stop to all thoughts of taking the day off, rolling to an easy 58-16 win.

Delphi came out firing on all cylinders in the first half, finishing the 1st quarter 15-4 edge followed by continuing to pour it in in the second quarter where they held the Panthers to 3 points and led 32-7 going into halftime. Juniors Tatum Minier, Myka Roth and Erika Carroll all got in on the offensive action as they helped their team to the large halftime going into the third quarter.

The Oracles had no plans of slowing down in the quarter where they almost equaled their first half total by scoring 22 in the entire third quarter alone while locking down Pioneer defensively to 1 point only. The game was far from over in the fourth when Pioneer managed to squander 8 more points on the board but it was too little too late as Delphi coasted to their second win of the season with a final score of 58-16.

Junior Myka Roth who led the team with a double double, 19 points and 10 rebounds, believed that “our togetherness as a unit on defense helped us not only limit Pioneer offensively but it gave us many easy opportunities at the basket as well.”

The Oracles were led by Roth with 19, Minier, 12 and Bailey Gasser with 8. Danielle Swayze was responsible for a large amount of buckets as well, finishing the game with 6 assists while Rylee Lane got after it on defense with a respectable 7 steals on the day.
