Multiple Teams · Oracles overcome sloppy first half to turn away Blue Devils

By Clay Maxfield

The Lady Oracles came into Saturday’s game riding a 6 game winning streak and looked to continue that run against the upset minded Tipton Blue Devils but given a concentrated effort from Tatum Minier and Myka Roth, Delphi was able to add another to the win column after edging Tipton with a final score of 41-36.

The first half alone began with Tipton making a run for their money, putting in three buckets from beyond the arc until Delphi finally got on the board with a trip to the line from Kayla Fogarsi followed by a three from Fogarsi as well. This began a 10 point run from the Oracles that was aided by free throws from Erika Carroll and work from inside the lane from both Myka Roth and Tatum Minier, putting the Lady Oracles up 10-9.

The second period stood somewhere on the corner of defensive intensity and minor sloppiness as both teams were forced into a multitude of turnovers due to full court pressure and in the quarter had a 6-4 advantage for Delphi sending them into halftime with a 3 point lead.

It was a tale of two halves though as Tipton came out firing from all cylinders in the second half, hitting from downtown as well as taking it to the rim in the third quarter and leading what looked to be a furious rally to take down the Oracles.

The rally was stifled though by Delphi’s defense in the fourth, holding Tipton to 7 in the quarter after their big 16 point third period. This, along with 11 points in the final period from Delphi aided in what was a 41-36 win.

Delphi was led by Minier with 13 and Roth with 10. They also added 6 and 9 rebounds apiece. Rylee Lane led with a game high 5 assists.
