The Oracles defeated Rensselaer 54-42 in a Hoosier Conference matchup on Saturday.
The Bombers (12-5) took an early 5-4 lead before Walters answered with a driving layup to again give Delphi a lead it would not relinquish.
The Oracles used three straight baskets from Ross to close the 1st period on an 8-0 run to take a 14-6 lead, which they extended to 27-13 at the half.
Hawn made Delphi’s final basket of the game on a trey with 53.7 seconds left in the 3rd period to maintain a 36-24 margin at the break, before the Oracles hit 18-of-28 free throws during a parade to the foul line in the final quarter to secure the victory.
“Again, we did a great job of defending,” Ballard said. “We were able to cut off their dribble penetration and close out on their shooters.”
“We also did a nice job of limiting their post feeds with back side help and strong 1-on-1 post defense,” he added. “Offensively, this was our best game to date in terms of quality possessions and shot selection.”
Hawn led Delphi with 21 points, followed by Ross and Lane with 10 apiece, Walters with eight, Zink three, and Windell two. Ross added game-highs of 14 rebounds and five steals.
The Oracles (10-8) next host Twin Lakes on Thursday and Tipton on Tuesday in a pair of conference games, both with 6 pm JV tip-offs.
