Delphi trailed at the end of the 1st quarter 21-17 and 40-31 at halftime as Clinton Central hit 8-of-17 from 3-pt. range in the 1st half.

The Oracles held the Bulldogs to just six points in the 3rd quarter, but still trailed 46-43 at the break.

Clinton Central extended its lead to 48-43 before Delphi went on a 7-0 run to take the lead at 50-48 with 5:40 remaining.  It was the Oracles first lead since it was 16-13 at the 1:55 mark of the 1st period.

The Bulldogs answered with a trey to re-take the lead at 51-50 at the 5:13 mark, before Delphi had another 7-0 spurt, sparked by a 3-pointer & a steal & layup by Roth to take a 57-51 lead with 3:46 remaining.

Townsend answered with a short jumper in the post with :32 seconds left, and Clinton Central missed a potential game-winning 3-ptr. at the buzzer.

“It’s always exciting to start a new season and see where we are at,” Delphi head coach Brian McCammon said.  “We got off to a rough start, but the kids responded more than once and came back to get a nice win.”

“Hudson had a great floor game, which led to Townsend and Roth getting great looks and playing well,” he added.  “Zach executed the final play to perfection and hit the game winning shot.  Good team win.”

Townsend answered with a basket to give the Oracles their last lead at 42-41 with 4:10 left in the period, before the Vikings again had a 9-2 run to close the quarter with a 50-44 lead, and Delphi would get no closer.

North White led by as many as 16 points two times in the final period, with the Oracles hitting three treys in the final minute to narrow the final deficit.

“Great start, but we failed to execute later which cost us the game,” McCammon said.  “Free throw shooting is a major concern right now.  We have to have better focus at the line.”

Delphi made only 7-of-20 free throws after making only 6-of 18 foul shots against Clinton Central.

“Zach, Peyton and Elijah all had good games, and Munson gave us some very good minutes off the bench,” McCammon added.  “It’s early, and a game like this shows us what we need to work on.  I really like this team.”

Munson scored eight points, followed by Hudson with six and a team-high eight assists.  Jordan Roth added five points, Gleason four, Jones three and Jaden Roth two.
