Indiana Kitchen Holiday Classic – Delphi • Dec. 29 – Jan. 3 Delphi Community High School is proud to host the annual Indiana Kitchen Holiday Classic from December 29 to January 3, spotlighting elite boys’ and girls’ high school basketball teams from around the region. Sponsored by Indiana Kitchen Premium Pork Products, the tournament brings together eight talented squads for an action-packed showcase of high intensity basketball at Oracle Arena. Participating Teams & Divisions Boys & Girls Teams (8 each): Delphi Oracles, Winamac Warriors, Frankfort Hot Dogs, North Newton Spartans, Rossville Hornets, Taylor Titans, Pioneer Panthers, and North Montgomery Chargers. Rossville 70, North Newton 27 Rossville dominated from start to finish with balanced scoring and relentless pressure. Taylor 51, Pioneer 23 Taylor surged in the third quarter with an 18–3 run to seal the win. North Montgomery 58, Delphi 50 Chargers held off a late Delphi rally to secure a hard-fought victory. Day 1 – Boys Semifinals Rossville 56, Winamac 43 Hornets controlled early and held strong to punch their ticket to the final. Taylor 47, North Montgomery 22 Titans’ defense stifled the Chargers, allowing just 3 first-half points. Championship Preview Rossville vs. Taylor – Two dominant squads clash for the title in what promises to be a thrilling finale. This is a rematch of the 2024 title game. Day 2 Highlights Frankfort gets their first win surviving late, 33-29. They will face the winner of the Delphi Pioneer matchup at 4p. North Newton heads to the 7th place game at 2p. Pioneer came out trying to slow the pace and pack their defense in the paint against the Oracles. Delphi was able to methodically grind out a lead and the game was never in doubt. The Oracles head to the 5th place game to face Frankfort on the back of a 49-32 victory that saw both teams play subs for the final 5 minutes of play. In a back and forth game the Panthers of Pioneer were able to survive the Spartans 41-39 and capture 7th place. Hayden LaCosse of North Newton and Shiloh Rine of Pioneer were awarded the Sportsmanship awards for the IKHC. The Oracles put on an impressive performance against the Hot Dogs. Led by Xaine Tessier's career night that saw him score 25 points and record 6 steals and 2 assists, Delphi took 5th place 73-54. Logan Smith of Delphi and Jack Michael of Frankfort were awarded the IKHC Sportsmanship Awards. Winamac came out in control, but North Montgomery did enough to stay within reach. A late run took the Warriors to 3rd place and a 42-30 victory. Will Machow was named to the IKHC All-Tournament Team and awarded the Sportsmanship Award for Winamac. Isaac Thornton was placed on the All-Tournament Team for North Montgomery and Kale Mitchell was awarded the Sportsmanship Award. In the Championship game Rossville started on top thanks to 2 free throws and an early 3 pointer, but Taylor took control and would not look back. In the second quarter Rossville's Brayden Thiele-Hahn recorded his 1,000th career point for the Hornets, but it was not enough to make up the consistent single digit deficit. Taylor refused to give up the lead heading into the half up 30-28. In the second half the commanded the game, holding the lead at times by 3 or 4 possessions. In the final minutes the Hornets were able to chip away and get it to a single possession. After a change of possession Rossville called timeouts with 2 seconds left down 2, the ball was inbounded and Nolan Britt became the unexpected hero burying a 3 pointer to win the championship 60-59 as the horn sounded. Keyshawn Galloway and Javionne Harris of Taylor were named to the All-Tournament Team and Drey McClatchey was awarded the Sportsmanship Award. Brayden Thiele-Hahn and Aiden Schaumburg were named to the All-Tournament Team and Brody Skinner was awarded the Sportsmanship Award for the Hornets. The girls fired up on January 2nd. The day was lacking much of the late game theatrics from the boys side. Winamac dominated the first quarter final game with Frankfort outpacing the Hot Dogs 67-13. In the second quarter final, it was more of the same with Rossville taking down North Newton by 28. 60-32. The third game was another 50 point margin, with Pioneer defeating Taylor 66-16. Delphi lead wire to wire in the fourth quarter final. The Chargers of North Montgomery clawed back into the game several times, but just couldn't get over the hump ultimately falling 53-42. In the first semi-final the Warriors fell to the Hornets. Rossville held a decided advantage at the half, but Winamac never gave in. The Warrior run came in the third quarter to cut it to a couple possession game, fueled by Kandace Kroft's 1,000th career point. She is the second player of the tournament to reach the 1,000 point milestone this week. However Rossville would extend their lead again in the final quarter winning 61-46. In the second semi-final the Panthers held the game in their hands the from wire to wire. Delphi wouldn't quit falling behind by double digits several times, only to work their way back to a single possession. The home team trailed by 10 with 1:29 remaining. Battled to a 2 point deficit, missed the go ahead three with 7 seconds remaining, and the put back layup just wouldn't fall to put the game into overtime. Pioneer leaves triumphant 56-54. To start the second day of competition the North Newton Spartans dispatched the Frankfort Hot Dogs 38-15, and the North Montgomery Chargers lead wire to wire on the Taylor Titans 56-20. Setting up the final placement match ups. At 2p the Frankfort Hot Dogs and Taylor Titans squared off, and the Hot Dogs were able to win a thriller breaking a losing streak dating back to their final regular season game in 23-24 on January 26. The 21-19 victory placed the Hot Dogs in 7th and the Titans in 8th. Dakota Spray of Taylor and Jocelyn Kireal of Frankfort were awarded the Sportsmanship Awards. In the 4p time slot, Piper Ivey of North Montgomery and Lilly Graham of North Newton were handed the Sportsmanship Awards by Delphi Mayor Kamron Yates. The Chargers held the game in hand for the full 32 minutes winning 34-17. The third place game saw a thrilling back and forth battle between the Winamac Warriors and the Delphi Oracles. The Oracles took the lead in the fourth and were able to survive a late surge by Winamac to hold on for a 50-47 third place finish. Marissa Iverson of Winamac and Abby Brown of Delphi were awarded the Sportsmanship Awards, and the Warrior's Kandace Kroft and Oracles' Peyton Morrow were named to the All-Tournament Team. In the final matchup for the hardware Rossville's Addi Gorbett and Pioneer's Mia McKaig were given the Sportsmanship Award before the game began. The Hornets went out to an early lead behind some stingy defense and sharp shooting from 3. The Panthers clawed their way back into it trailing by single digits in the 3rd, but Rossville proved to be to strong and deep taking control as the final minutes were on the clock. The girls made it a sweep for Rossville with a 53-40 victory. Addi Gorbett and Ava Burkle of Rossville and Mia McKaig and Avery Hasleby of Pioneer were handed All-Tournament Honors post-game.
