The Oracles entered the weekend on the upswing. With Varsity Softball sitting at 2-0 with an average margin of victory over 20 runs, and baseball taking down strong potential Sectional opponents in Benton Central and Seeger after an early stumble against Clinton Central. Baseball Saturday April 11: Delphi 11-MG 1, Delphi 16-MG 6 The Oracles avenged their 2025 double header losses to the Argylls who were receiving votes in the 2A Top 10 IHSBCA Coaches Poll. They mercy ruled Madison-Grant in both games. Brett Huffman put on a show as he lead of the game with a home run and combined with Cason Mills to pitch a no hitter. The only run Madison-Grant was able to plate was unearned as the home team took the first game 11-1. In the second game the bats were white hot. Levi Coghill went 4-4 with 6 RBI (6-7 on the day with 8 RBI), and Xaine Tessier was 3-4 (4-6 on the day) as Delphi posted a 0.649 OBP consistently loading the bases and putting pressure on Madison-Grant's defense. Not to be outdone, Huffman back in his everyday CF position unloaded offensively going 2-2 on 5 plate appearances scoring 5 runs and hitting 5 RBI. His final plate appearance in the 5th inning was a walk-off Grand Slam to complete the mercy rule sweep. Brett would end the day recording a perfect OBP in 8 PA, going 3-3 with 7 runs scored, 6 RBI, 2 HR, and a combined no-hitter with no ER. The JV team also took 2 from the Red Devils at West Lafayette. Monday April 13: Delphi 15-Tri-Couty 7 Tri-County entered the match-up receiving top 10 votes in the IHSBCA Coaches Poll, and would be the 3rd game in 3 days for the Oracles against highly touted competition at Oracle Field. Keygan Elliot joined the hit parade that began over the weekend as the home team took down the perennial 1A contender. The senior shortstop went 4-5 with 6 RBI, a HR, and 4 runs scored. Xaine Tessier scored 4 runs going 1-3 and stealing 4 bases. Levi Coghill (7), Noah Hutsell (3), and Jax Fassnacht (3) combined to face 36 batters racking up 13 strikeouts in 7 innings. That win extended the Oracles win streak to 5 straight wins against highly rated opponents and/or sectional foes. Thursday April 16: Delphi 12-Rensselaer 2 The Oracles scored runs in bunches with multiple crooked innings to take the game 12-2 in 6. Coghill drove in 4, Huffman scored 4 times, and Tessier went 2-2 and drove in 2. Softball Saturday April 11: Delphi 3-Jeff 4, Delphi 11-Faith Christian 1 In the triangular the Oracles were snake bit in the opening contest against Lafayette Jeff. The girls put the ball in play with hard hits, but it always seemed to be right at a Broncho defender. The home girls took an early 3-0 lead, but powered by a 2 run HR to center Jeff made it a game in the fourth. With 2 more runs late they took the lead 4-3. The Delphi defense held in the 7th with the top of the lineup coming up. Sami Leopard lead off with a hit, and Maddy Anderson walked to put runners on 1st and 2nd. Abi Pearson laid down a perfect SAC bunt and nearly beat the throw to put the tying and winning runs in scoring position. Unfortunately the cards weren't dealt as we expected. Ava Mills recorded the second out in the cleanup spot, and Airy Lattimore fouled off her third pitch and as the catcher turned around to look for it, it somehow fell right into her mitt to end the game in heartbreaking fashion. In the second game Abi pitched a 2 hitter and shut out the Eagles, as the Oracle offense went back into overdrive scoring 11 runs and mercy ruling Faith Christian. Delphi's defense was on display all day. Freshman Kiya Anderson made numerous plays at both second and first base including a diving stop between her and the first baseman and completed the play by throwing the runner out from her knees. Sami continues to show why she was named the Top J&C All-Area Player to Watch making play after play at shortstop and causing havoc on the base paths stealing multiple bases in both games. Monday April 13: The JV team mercy ruled West Central at home. Exchange student Izaro Gallego-Lotina scored the deciding run on a past ball. Tuesday April 14: Delphi 2-South Newton 1 The Varsity team headed to South Newton for a non-conference matchup with the Rebels. Timely offense won the day with two delayed run sac bunts to take the game 2-1 in 9 innings. Pearson and Lattimore scored the runs. Thursday April 16: Due to two late pop up storms the game at Pioneer was rained out. It has been rescheduled for May 1st.
