Weekly Highlights & Recap Football starts off on the right foot. Varsity Football notched it’s first win of the 2026 campaign taking down Benton Central on Friday August 21st by a score of 35-7. Junior signal caller Weston Brown lit up the air going 20-26 for 324 yards and 5 touchdowns and no INTs on his way to earn WLFI Football Player of the Week honors. Xaine Tessier secured 9 catches for 177 yards and 3 touchdowns. Cason Mills added a 65 yard touchdown, and Levi Coghill added a touchdown and 2 2pt conversions to add to a total team effort on defense that only yielded 7 points on the reserve unit during the final minutes of a running clock. JV Football then completed the high school sweep of Benton Central 28–26 to secure the program's weekend double over the Bison. Competitive Tennis & Soccer Battles showed grit. Prior to Monday, Boys Tennis battled through tight 3–2 losses against Western Boone and Tipton, falling just one court short in both matches. Against Rensselaer and Maconaquah they scoreboard looked more lopsided going 1-4 and 0-5, but the boys played tough losing multiple tiebreakers showing their improvement, but not quite getting over the edge in the win column yet. On the pitch, COED Soccer dropped a tight 2–3 overtime thriller to Sheridan before taking a tough home loss at Rensselaer 1-4. Both are major improvements from last years results that had the team losing 1-9 in both contests. Leo Hernandez and Carter Allen were the goal scorers at Sheridan, and Jordan Quinonez netted a PK that was earned by Leo against Rensselaer. Again lots of improvements by the squad who’ve started off finding some competitive footing early on. Volleyball rebounding from last season. Coming off a tough 2025 season, the girls put in a strong summer of preparation. They were able to earn 2 victories in the season opening HHC tournament going 2-2. First weeks of school illness go to them knocking out a few starters the next week, and forcing the team to play a younger lineup than was on the court at Clinton Prairie and the JV and varsity both suffered from the roster moves falling that night. The varsity is sitting at 2-3, and JV 0-1 with a home test on Tuesday the 25th against Lewis Cass. Girls Golf are getting busy. The team is currently one girl short of being able to score as a team, and is competing individually. The girls lost two matches to start the season due to rain, but have been getting on the course to make it up. Bianca Baker, Faith Barngrover, and Malya Pitty have faced off with Clinton Prairie, Pioneer, Benton Central, and Lewis Cass to date. Cross Country takes off in opener. Due to the weather the cross country team has lost 2 invitationals already (1 being made up on Tuesday the 25th). However in their lone invite at Cosgray Tree Farm with Twin Lakes the team did phenomenally well. French Exchange Student Louane Emeraud won the race, showcasing her triathalon endurance from back home, and all of the girls medaled (Harper Stinson 9th, Josie Clausen 17th, Kennedy Brown 18th). Leo Hernandez was the lone medal winner on the boys side taking 3rd.
