Javon Frost: Continuing a Tradition

Delphi, Indiana – Javon Frost, has left an indelible mark on the 2023-2024 IHSAA State Tournament. His remarkable journey from the mats of Delphi Community High School to the state finals has captivated fans and fellow wrestlers alike. Early in his career he faced setbacks, never advancing beyond the Sectional level of the tournament. Heading into his senior season, the combination of hard word and determination have lead Javon to lofty heights. This monumental achievement places him in an exclusive fraternity of Oracles, Delphi has qualified wrestlers for the State Finals 31 separate times with Javon being the 21st to ever reach the highest level of competition in the state of Indiana. Delphi's last representation occurred in 2022 when Kooper Kinsler made the big stage as a qualifier. Dominating the Competition Throughout the season he showcased a blend of technique, strength, and determination that set him apart. His lightning-fast takedowns, stingy defense, and strategic escapes left opponents on their heals. His only loss on the regular season came to top-10 ranked Senior Hamilton Heights Husky Carson Fettig in an 11-3 loss at the North Montgomery Holiday Duals Championship Match. Frost’s wrestling prowess was on full display throughout the opening rounds of the IHSAA tournament. Competing in the 157-pound weight class, as a heavy favorite at the Sectional and Regional rounds. In the sectional and regional rounds, Frost bulldozed through his adversaries, earning several convincing victories and 2 championships, one at the Lafayette Jeff Sectional and the other at the Logansport Regional. His relentless work ethic and unwavering focus paid off as he secured a spot in the state finals with first and second round pins at the Semi-State tournament in East Chicago Central. His semi-final opponent was undefeated and ranked first in his weight class. Beau Brabender of Mishawaka handed Javon only his second loss of the season on points. In his 3rd place match, Javon looked dangerous, but ultimately fell for the 3rd time taking 4th place on a last second flurry in an attempt to break a 1-1 tie. The Ford Center in Evansville will serve as the battleground for the 86th Annual IHSAA Wrestling State Finals. Javon will step onto the mat with confidence, knowing that he was about to face the best of the best in an electric, atmosphere where the stakes are high. Friday February 16th, he will face Asher Ratliff a 39-2 senior from Columbus North in a win or go home scenario. If he defeats Ratliff, he will spend Saturday wrestling for his place on the podium, with the other 7 medalists. Tickets for the event sold out in minutes.
