Monday December 30th marked the opening round play-in games, which were played at Frankfort’s Case Arena, Pioneer High School, Rossville High School, and North Montgomery High School. This annual high school tournament features both boys' and girls' divisions, showcasing eight teams: the Delphi Oracles, Winamac Warriors, Frankfort Hot Dogs, North Newton Spartans, Rossville Hornets, Taylor Titans, Pioneer Panthers, and North Montgomery Chargers. Opening Night Highlights: Winamac Warriors: The girls' team dominated the Frankfort Hot Dogs with a decisive 66-15 victory, while the boys' team edged out a close win, 61-59. Both the boys' and girls' Rossville Hornets teams triumphed over North Newton in their home play-in games, with scores of 63-33 and 54-22, respectively. The girls' team from Pioneer secured a 57-35 win against Taylor, but the Taylor boys' team emerged victorious with a 42-27 score after entering the second half with a 2pt lead on the back of a stingy defensive performance. The Delphi Oracles double dipped with both the boys' and girls' teams defeating North Montgomery. The boys' team won 57-51 and the girls' team 49-45. Thursday January 2nd saw all 8 boys teams battle in the Oracle Arena. The consolation bracket was completed with the following results: 5th Place - Pioneer 6th Place - Frankfort 7th Place - North Montgomery 8th Place - North Newton Frankfort defeated North Newton 55-48 in the opening consolation time slot. They moved on to play for 5th at 3p. Pioneer beat North Montgomery 54-47. Frankfort awaited them for 5th place at 3p. North Montgomery and North Newton faced off for 7th at 1p. North Montgomery took 7th 66-41 Pioneer took 5th place 61-54 Rossville took the victory against Winamac 60-50. Rossville will play for the championship on Saturday at 3p. Winamac will play for 3rd at 11a also on Saturday. Delphi and Taylor battled for 32 minutes, and Taylor is able to edge out the Oracles in the final minute. Taylor's 39-33 victory puts them against the Hornets at 3p for the Championship. The Oracles will face the Warriors at 11a for 3rd place. Friday January 3rd all of the Girl's teams competed in Oracle Arena. In the consolation bracket North Montgomery won two games. Defeating Taylor 62-33 and North Newton 36-28 to take 5th place. Taylor bounced back after the start of the day 62-33 loss to North Montgomery, to take 7th from Frankfort 48-36. Final Placements decided on Friday: 5th - North Montgomery 6th - North Newton 7th - Taylor 8th - Frankfort The evening games featured two very strong performances from the Rossville Hornets and Pioneer Panthers. Both punched their ticket to the championship game. Rossville with a score of 41-35, and Pioneer 58-39, sending Delphi and Winamac into the 3rd place game, a rematch of last years IKHC Girls title game. Championship Saturday January 4th The 3rd place games started the morning off in highly competitive fashion. The Oracle and Warriors split the day with the Delphi Boys team winning 3rd place by a score of 51-45, and the Winamac girls took 3rd in overtime 57-51. The Taylor Boys overcame a large early deficit created by an onslaught of first half threes to win 49-46. After a back and forth game, the Girls division required an additional 4 minutes.
