Multiple Teams · Football sectional review

The Oracles’ football team hosted the Oak Hill Golden Eagles out of Converse, IN for the first round of sectionals. They got out to a 21-7 halftime lead, fueled by Seth Waters’ two passing touchdowns and his defensive interception. The Oracles went on to dominate the second half, rushing for two touchdowns and shutting the Golden Eagles out on defense. They advanced to the second round of sectionals with a 35-7 win.

In the second round of sectionals, the Oracles traveled to Lewis Cass. The first quarter was quiet, as both teams remained scoreless. The second quarter came and went as well, with the only score coming from the Kings, who ran the ball in for a three yard score, yet missed the PAT. At the half, the score was 6-0, Lewis Cass. During the second half, the scoring prohibition ended, with Lewis Cass extending their lead from 6-0 to 33-0. However, the Oracles got on the board with 2:26 left in the game on a 63 yard pass to Blake Carroll. The two point conversion was no good, and the Lewis Cass Kings ended the Oracles season, with a final score of 33-6. The Oracles will graduate six players, Ty Watson, Jared Mowdy, Adam Bowen, Adam Rider, Ben Lucas, and Jaden Kinzie, as well as a foreign exchange student, Joe Lammers, and two managers, Cassidy Kelly and Ian Chapman. Their record was 5-6.

Multiple Teams · Volleyball sectionals review

For the volleyball sectional, the girls had to travel to Clinton Prairie. There waiting for them were the Seeger Patriots.  The game ended up with a 3-0 loss, with Seeger advancing. The main stat that hurt the Oracles the most was the fact they had 21 ball handling errors. Seeger, on the other hand, only had three. The first and last sets of the game were hard fought, put the Oracles couldn’t put up any digits on their side of the scoreboard. The set scores were 19-25, 15-25, and 20-25. The girls volleyball team is losing four seniors, all of whom regularly appeared in each set. Their ending record was 2-23.

Multiple Teams · Boys’ basketball preview

The Oracles are back again and are ready to play. After losing five seniors last year, they look to keep on building off of the legacy that those seniors left. The boys’ basketball team is going to try to get above .500 at the end of the season, after falling just short of that last year. This group has experience with the four juniors playing varsity this year, along with two seniors. After providing sparks off of the bench last year, junior Seth Waters looks to direct this team from point this year. Last year started what is going to be a return of prominence in the Delphi basketball program. This team is going to be a must-see for years to come.

Girls Varsity Golf · Girls’ golf sectional review

The girls’ golf team went to sectionals with only three girls on their roster, Abigail Bieghler, Bella Smith and Peyton Resler. Due to their inability to bring four golfers, the girls were ineligible to post a team score. However, on an 18 hole course, the girls did well, scoring a 131, 139 and a 147, in the aforementioned order. None of the girls are graduating this year, so the team hopes to bring them back next year.

Multiple Teams · Girls’ basketball preview

Coming off of a sectional championship, the Lady Oracles desire to be in that spot again. Last year’s senior class consisted of three starters along with several role players, but this team should still have a sky high potential. The girls will be sustained this year by returning playmakers senior Katherine Lang, senior Emily Jakes and sophomore Lillie Smith. Also, Delphi has a talented freshman class playing this year that will surely help them out over their four year run.

Oracles News · Swimming preview

The Oracle swim team brought in a new coach this year, Coach Fred Schorm. Coach Schorm brought three goals: get a good turnout, start new traditions, and improve upon the swimmers’ times. Between the team almost doubling last year’s numbers as well as incorporating new traditions, such as the signing of the kickboard and the fortune cookies, the team has already completed ⅔ of their season goals. Go and cheer on your Oracle swim team this season as they attempt to complete the last of their goals.

Boys Middle School Cross Country, Boys Varsity Cross Country · Boys’ cross country sectional review

The boys’ cross country team was able to fill out a full team for Sectionals this year for the first time in several years. Therefore, they could then qualify for team competition. Junior Max Kender was able to be the first Delphi runner to cross the finish line, with a time of 19:08. Max was only five spots away from being able to move on to Regionals. Sophomore Nick Roberson, sophomore Michael Bernfield  and junior Skyler Lyons were all able to beat their personal records from the year in the sectional meet. Going into the meet, the Oracles were the underdogs, predicted to place last. The Oracles, however, were able to beat Central Catholic and place ahead of them. With no seniors of the team, this cross country team will be back and ready for action next year.
